BRISCOLUM Cards Fate Sacrifice
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
English
Pull up a stool, good sir. The cards are dealt, and the tavern is cursed.
Briscolum isa roguelite deckbuilder based on the Italian card game Briscola, the Italian trick-taking card game generations of Italians grew up playing. It takes the rules you can learn in five minutes and twists them, the way Balatro twisted poker: relics that bend fate, corrupted cards with dark powers, and every advantage paid for in life and coins.
The idea
Briscola is a game of memory, nerve and silent understanding. In the two-against-two game, partners have always spoken without words, with the old grimaces: a crooked mouth, eyes rolled towards the ceiling — each gesture revealing the cards held in one's hand. Briscolum keeps all of that, and seats you at a candlelit table in a medieval tavern where something is not quite right.

What you will find
- Real briscola. A 40-card Italian deck, three cards in hand, trumps that cut. Ace 11, Three 10, King 4, Horseman 3, Knave 2: 120 points on the table, and 61 to win.
- One against one, or two against two. Play solo against the tavern, or with a partner across the table who reads your grimaces (when they catch them) and makes their own.
- A guided tutorial. Never played briscola? The tutorial walks you through a whole match, and the rulebook is always one click away.

- Fifteen relics in five families: Fate, Eye, Signs, Blood and Gold. Pick the one you want, or roll the d20 and trust your luck. (Quick Match only)
- Corrupted cards. One rank of the deck gains a power: peek at an opponent's hand, look at the top of the deck, beat a card you should never beat. Every effect has a price.
- Life and coins that last for the whole run, and must be spent wisely.

- Story mode (alpha). A branching map to climb, one stop at a time: tavern regulars, tougher opponents with rules of their own, potions, treasure, strange encounters, and something waiting at the end.
- Four companions to choose from, each with their own way of playing, a virtue and a flaw. (There will be more)
- A merchant who sells relics and corrupted cards, if you have the coins.

- A living low-poly tavern seen in first person: characters pulling expressive grimaces, waitresses and patrons walking by, firelight, and an optional PS1 look.
- Beautiful decks. The Briscolum deck, in antique ink on parchment, and public-domain regional decks: Piacentine, Napoletane, Bergamasche and Bresciane.
- English and Italian, switchable at any time from the options.
Status
Briscolum is an advanced prototype, playable from start to finish. The Story mode is in alpha: game balance and content are still subject to change. Every comment helps, so leave one below!
First launch
The game is not signed yet, so your computer may be wary of it the first time. Fear not, good sir: the tavern is cursed, the game is not.You only need to do this once. Installing the game through the itch.io app usually avoids the warning altogether.
- Windows: if you see “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
- macOS: if the game “cannot be opened”, right-click (or Ctrl-click) Briscolum Demo and choose Open, then Open again. If it still refuses, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
- Linux: if it won’t start, make the file executable (right-click → Properties → Allow executing file as program, or
chmod +x "Briscolum Demo.x86_64").
Italiano
Accomodatevi, messere.

- Quindici reliquie in cinque famiglie: Fato, Occhio, Segni, Sangue e Oro.
